about us / contact

We formed MR&A as a limited liability partnership in 2001 to enable us to concentrate on developing relationships that make business a pleasure.

We believe that this approach ensures the best results for all. Jon and Peter began working together in 1986 so know most of each other’s idiosyncrasies. Forming a partnership with their wives introduced a new dynamic – “I wouldn’t go back, but don’t tell the wife” said Peter in an unguarded moment!

This is what we do but if you want to know who we really are follow each link!

Peter Riches BSc FRICS

Peter has been a Chartered Surveyor for more than 20 years having graduated in 1981. His career commenced in the Property Investment Department at Royal London, before moving to private practice in Colchester in 1986. Since that time he has advised on all aspects of commercial property but has specialised in Landlord & Tenant matters, Business Rates and valuation.

In 1990 Peter was appointed to advise the Crown Estate Commissioners in respect of their ownership of tidal land throughout East Anglia, a post he continues to hold following a competitive re-tender in 2001.

Jon Ablewhite MRICS

Born and educated in Colchester, Jon has worked in the town all his life. He joined Fenn Wright in 1983, then went to Whybrow Property & Financial Services who were bought out by Halifax Estate Agencies in 1989. He was part of the management team which bought the business in 1992, forming Whybrow Riches & Dodds, and left that firm in 2001 to form the present partnership.

Jon’s background is in the sale and letting of commercial property, however he also undertakes professional work such as valuations and rent reviews, and manages property for some of his clients.

Samantha Morley

Samantha brings legal experience to the partnership. She has worked in the legal field since 1983 in London and Colchester. She has trained as a legal executive and was assistant to the senior partner of one of Colchester’s oldest firms. Her particular experience is in the field of land for development of residential property.
More recently she assisted the Principal Assistant County Solicitor at Suffolk County Council, concentrating on environment and transport matters.

Teresa Ablewhite

Teresa specialises in IT systems and databases, subjects on which she has been a tutor for some time. Her ability to administer systems will be of particular benefit to our property management clients in providing concise and accurate information in the form they require.
Property agency is reliant on marketing and modern technology is playing an increasingly significant role. Teresa’s IT skills will ensure that Morley Riches & Ablewhite use new technology in the most relevant way for our clients’ benefit.

Carol Geddes

“Carol deals with the “non-surveying” aspects of our managed properties. This includes rent accounting, managing service charge funds, arranging payments to both contractors and clients and making sure regular building services are provided. She is the first point of contact for landlords and tenants. Carol manages our property management database including records for The Crown Estate.”
