Our Chosen Charity for 2018 – Colchester Toy Library

At Morley Riches & Ablewhite we no longer send Christmas cards and instead send a sum of money to our chosen charity for that year. We have chosen our charity for 2018 – and are pleased to announce – drum roll please (!!!!!) Colchester Toy Library has been selected. We like to support small, local charities that are less likely to receive national funding where our contribution really makes a difference.
The Colchester Toy Library aims to be a supportive and welcoming space for the local community and believes that all children should be able to have a range of play experiences no matter what their circumstances or individual needs. They lend a diverse range of high quality toys, including specialist toys for children with special needs, to families at a very low cost. The Colchester Toy Library also provides a community space for volunteers and families to spend time with children to play and learn. Other community members such as charities, playgroups, childminders and foster carers also regularly use the facilities and borrow a range of exciting toys.
In addition to these services they also hold weekly stay and play afternoons for families with children who have special needs. These sessions involve a range of games and activities which aim to support children’s communication skills and physical development.
The use of the “C word” describing the festive celebration held towards the end of December each year is vetoed until Jon Ablewhite has celebrated his birthday on 4th December. Accordingly, a “C Word” box was set up and anyone mentioning that word had to contribute a £1. It would appear Peter Riches was the main culprit and we are adding this sum to our main donation to the toy library.
As a first this year we are also organising a sponsored staff and partners climb of Snowdon in the summer – at our age I understand we will be taking one of the easier routes – which is a relief! A few four legged friends will be joining us and if you wish to sponsor us in our efforts please contact Sam Morley via email and we will let you know how to do so.
